if flesh would scream
the world would become siren
summer would retreat in favor of winter
the crowning swoon of certainty would teeter
along the seas intimate agonies
and us in our virginal misgivings
would move the oars of magnificence
to play the flute’s chaste solo of
complex exploration and artificial
arrival
