a million fireflies led me to a river that
held the multitude of my life’s experiences

standing still i pondered their lights
without fear or intellect, leisure or haste

taking a deep breath, i went under
swimming without the enigma of
oppressing imposition or fortuitous insight

coming up for breath my mind met with a
darkness that refused to conform with
physical separation

i closed my eyes, and merely human i cried
before light within led me back to land

they’d waited for me
a million fires
unfazed by natures stream
